POST SHOW REVIEW
Despite the recession, Tissue World Americas in Miami draws 6% MORE VISITORS
than 2008
Miami . . . Defying low expectations and the impression that the tissue industry
in the Americas is facing difficult times, the Tissue World Americas 2010 exhibition
and conference was successfully held last month in Miami Beach, Florida.
Somewhat surprisingly, the event attracted more visitors than the most recent
edition in the pre-recession year of 2008. Almost all exhibitors expressed their
surprise and satisfaction that the turnout was so good, much better than had
been expected.
The number of tradeshow visitors was up 6% from 2008 with the total attendance,
excluding exhibitor personnel, being somewhat over 700 people. In addition,
many observers said they thought there were more Latin American visitors this
time. Indeed the statistics confirm that the total Latin American participation
was around 23%, up from 19% in 2008.
The total number of delegates at the market and technical conference held
alongside the exhibition was a little over 300, slightly higher than in 2008.
As usual at Tissue World Americas, the aisles were not overly crowded but there
was a very business-like feel to the show with all the quality visitors highly
focused on the tissue industry.
Esko Uutela, RISI’s Principal of Tissue and a worldwide expert on tissue industry
developments, said he thought that Tissue World Americas “was really a very
positive event with a better feeling than in 2008, more interesting discussions
about new projects, and better participation from Latin America. I was surprised
that there were so many high level people present and such serious business
discussions taking place.”
Many conference delegates also expressed their satisfaction at the high level
of the meeting, which was held under the theme of “Getting the Competitive Edge
in the Tissue Business”. The speaker’s program is intended to be a continuing
education in the tissue industry, combining market and technical topics for
professional development.
A senior manager from one of the world’s leading tissue producers also had
positive words to say about the conference. “I highly recommend this event.
It was the first time for me, although numerous people who now work with me
have attended many times. Overall, while there are opportunities for improvement,
this is definitely a worthwhile event.”
The choice of Miami is once again confirmed as the right place to hold this
meeting aimed at the big North American tissue market and the rapidly growing
Latin American market. Miami makes sense as a central and comfortable meeting
point.
The next Tissue World Americas will take place in Miami on March 21-23, 2012.
It is expected that further fine-tuning in the formula for the conference and
the exhibition will help make it even more useful for tissue makers from both
North and Latin America.
