A Software Tool For Selecting The Best Possible Pulps For Tissue Production

When selecting fiber raw materials for tissue production competing interests often collide. Production people want to produce tissue with needed quality and reasonable costs. Purchasing department aims to make as good deals as possible with pulp sellers. These colliding interests often lead to a situation where production department tries to produce good enough product from unsatisfactory pulp raw material.

Fortunately, there is a way to tackle this problem in a way that satisfies both the mentioned parties. Solution is to mathematically model all the pulp quality parameters of the available pulps, build mix models with different pulp raw materials equivalent to tissue production and compare those models with each other. By this way the optimal pulp mix can be found, both quality wise and financially.

These features are included in SoftaCell™, a furnish optimization tool used by several major pulp, paper, board and tissue producers. The tool is based on deep experience in fiber physics, mathematical modelling, data analysis and knowledge on paper industry production processes.

A demonstration how to apply this tool in tissue production will be given.
